The sixth installment of The New York Racing Association, Inc.’s (NYRA) “Spotlight Series” is now available on demand at NYRA.com and profiles NYRA’s Horse Identification Department.
The video allows fans to follow NYRA’s Chief Horse Identifier Janet Reid during an afternoon at the races, as she makes her final check of the horses entered to run, ensuring that all starters match the entries by comparing various physical markings to the department’s detailed records.
Chief Identifier Reid works with a team of four others - identifiers Carol Dolan and Anthony Jaccino, photographer Diane Connor, and clerk Karen Brady - to verify that every horse running is exactly who the connections claim it to be.
Created to give racing fans a behind the scenes look at the people who help NYRA racing operate smoothly on a consistent basis, previous “Spotlight Series” videos have featured Tim Kelly and Ed Brown, the clerk of scales and assistant clerk of scales, track announcer Tom Durkin, paddock judge Neal Cutrone, and the NYRA Stewards and Clockers.
All six of the “Spotlight Series” videos can be viewed by online at http://www.nyra.com/nyraspotlight/nyraspotlight.html and at NYRA’s official YouTube site.
